New Initiatives

The University has taken up several new initiatives in the recent past to make rigorous changes in teaching methodology that leads to improved academic performance by students, intensive use of new technologies in learning and evaluation processes, and strengthening infrastructural facilities to improve quality and quantity of research output and professional development activities.

Quality of Teaching and Learning:

The University has introduced the following measures towards the paradigm shift from a teacher-centric approach to learner-centric approach has been adopted.

  • Choice-based Credit System is introduced in all the Post-Graduate Programmes offered by the University in campus and constituent colleges w.e.f. the academic year 2009-10.
  • Extra disciplinary papers, such as Communicative English (I semester), Practical Ethics, Human Rights and Environmental Concerns (II Semester), Personality Development and Wellness (III Semester) and Community Work (IV Semester) have been introducedat PG level.
  • Continuous Evaluation of the student through internal examinations, assignments, seminar presentations etc.
  • Project Work for all the Post-Graduate Students with effect from the Academic year 2009-10.
  • New Courses such as M.Sc. (Computational Geophysics), M.Sc. (Nano Science), M.Sc. (Pharmaco Informatics), M.Pharm., PG Diploma in Radialogical Physics etc.
  • Eligibility Test for admission into Ph.D.

Promotion of Research:

  • Intensive coaching at Competitive examinations coaching centre to secure large number of CSIR and UGC-JRF Fellowships.
  • The University has created necessary infrastructure for attracting research funding from various agencies.
  • The University has forged linkages with industry for promotion of research and has collaboration with many National and International Organisations through MoUs.
  • Newly established Technology Development Centre provides incubation facilities for high-end research in engineering and technology.
  • Newly commissioned Central instrumentation facility provides high-end analytical and other research instruments, state-of-the-art modular labs and computing lab catering to the research needs.

Empowerment of students:

The University has taken a number of measures to enhance the student empowerment through various support services such as career guidance, healthcare, psychological counselling, mentoring, personality development, communication and soft skills development by establishing the Competitive Examinations Coaching Centre, Directorate of Placement Services, Sahayam, and augmenting facilities at English Language Training Centre, University Computer Centre and University Health Centre.

  Osmania University has renewed the Memorandum of Understanding with College of Defence Management, Secunderabad to offer the following programmes for a period of three years from the academic year 2015-2016.
  Approved the proposal of the Federation of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FTAPCCI), Hyderabad to enter into a MoU with Osmania University
  Approved the proposal of the Director, IRISET, Secunderabad to enter into a MoU with University College of Engineering, OU to offer M.Tech programme in Railway Signalling and Telecommunication Engineering jointly with IRISET, Secunderabad for the benefit of probationers of Indian Railways with effect from the academic year 2015-2016
  Approved the proposal of the Head, Planning and Management Department, Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research (AMD), Hyderabad to enter into a MoU with Osmania University
  POLITICAL SCIENCE:
  • College of Air Warfare - M.Phil. & Ph.D.
  • College of Defence Management - Ph.D.
  • College of Defence Management - Certificate Course for 3 months.
  • College of Defence Management - Study India Program for Officers from friendly Foreign Countries.
  POLITICAL SCIENCE: BME is an inter-disciplinary Program which utilizes the resources from Osmania Medical College and DDH & RC to teach medical subjects (Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry) and clinical sciences (Cardiology, Neurology, etc.). Hence the department is utilizing the part time services of the faculty from OsmaniaMedicalCollege and DurgabaiDeshmukhHospital and Research center, on a permanent basis with MOU between the institutions.
  MECHANICAL ENGINEERING Signed MOU with Mahindra Ecole Ltd interms exchange of P.G. students for Project works so that students can avail the facilities available at Mahindra Ecole Ltd.Department is in consultation with Daikin Industries limited for Signing a MOU for setting up training facility for students and faculty of the college and also to train outside faculty in the area of Refrigeration and Air conditioning.

  Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Osmania University and Missouri State University, USA for joint Educational Programmes, Joint Research and Cultural opportunities.
  Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Osmania University and the Presidential Secretariat of Sri. Lanka through Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies, Sri Lanka to establish a programme for Sri Lanka Studies (PSLS) at Centre for Indian Ocean Studies, Osmania University,
  Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Osmania University and College of Airwarfare, Secunderabad for Ph.D Programme in Defence & Strategic Studies in the subject Political Science.
  Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Osmania University and College of Defence Management, Secunderabad for Ph.D. programme in Political Science.
  Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Osmania University and Okan University, Istandul, Turkey, for the purpose of Inter-Institutional Agreement of Cooperation.
