Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Research Centre (MJPRC), Osmania University, first of its kind in Telangana Universities, had been established by Osmania University as per 173rd Executive Council’s resolution and inaugurated in the eve of Jyotiba Phule’s 196th birth anniversary, i.e., on 11th April, 2023.

Mahatma Jyotiba Phule had been relentlessly strived in analyzing socio-economic, cultural and political forces throughout his life. He rendered relentless struggle against oppression, injustice and envisaged a new social system based on unending human ethics and values.

The main objectives of the centre shall be cognitively rendering inunderstanding the contemporary relevance of Phule ideas on Education, Women Empowerment, Social Justice as tools for transformation of society. Phule’s thoughts on subjects like Socio-Economic perspectives, Women Education, Religion, Philosophy of Social Justice in Indian Society, Social Work, Polity, Agrarian crisis, Human Rights, Caste system and Untouchability. This centre shall continuously strive to realize the Vision of the Phule and aims to fulfill objectives enshrined Phule-Vision in India.

Contemporary Relevance of MJP

Mahatma Phule’s thoughts are so relevant today as we are collectively striving to build a new India - resilient, inclusive. Mahatma Phule worked remarkably for social equality, women’ empowerment and boosting education for SCs, STs and OBCs. The vision of Mahatma Phule has been amply reflected even in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, which are so openly articulated in the global resolve to end poverty, hunger, ensuring good health and well-being, quality education and gender equality among other things.

Mahatma Jyotiba Phule - who brilliantly articulated his thoughts and ideas in his writings such as Gulamgiri (Slavery) and ShetkarayachaAasud (Cultivator’s Whipcord).Phule is the constant source of inspiration to the marginalized people of India as his ideas, principles and actions continue to have relevance in contemporary times. This centre will strive to realize the vision of the phule and aims to achieve the objectives enshrined Phule vision in India.
