LL.B. (3-Years Degree Course)

The LL.B. 3-Year Degree Course is offered through semester system to the students admitted (with effect from academic year 2001-02) as prescribed by the Bar Council of India. All the Rules and Regulations, hereinafter, specified shall be read as a whole for the purpose of interpretation.

Admission: A candidate for admission to LL.B. semester course has to qualify at the LL.B. Common Entrance Examination (LAWCET) for that academic year. The candidates will be admittedly strictly in accordance with the merit secured at the entrance examination, keeping in view the Rules in force in respect of statutory reservation of seats under various categories of candidates.

Duration: The Duration of the course is three academic years. Each academic year is divided into two semesters. The two semesters in the first academic year are referred to as Semester I and Semester II, the two semesters in the second academic year are referred to as Semester III and Semester IV and the two semesters in III year are referred to as Semester V and Semester VI. Each semester shall comprise of 16 weeks of instruction.

Size of the Section: As prescribed by the Bar Council of India vide the Bar Council of India Rules as adopted and approved by the BCI at its meeting held on 14/09/2008 vide Resolution No. 110/2008, size of each section of LL.B. shall not be more than 60 students. Therefore the intake in Ist Year of LL.B. Course offered at the University College of Law is 60 w.e.f. the academic year 2009-10.

5-Years B.A., LL.B., integrated Degree Course

The College has introduced the LL.B. Five Years degree Course from the Academic Year 2007-08 with an intake of 80 students. The B.A., LL.B. 5-Year Integrated Degree Course is offered through semester system to the students admitted.

Eligibility for Admission: An applicant who has successfully completed 10+2 0r Intermediate or equivalent from a recognized University of India or outside or from a Senior Secondary Board or equivalent, constituted or recognized by the Union or by a State Government or from any equivalent institution from a foreign country recognized by the Government of that country for the purpose of issue of qualifying certificate on successful completion of the course, may apply for and be admitted into the B.A., LL.B 5 Year Integrated Degree Course. Provided that applicants who have obtained 10+2 Higher Secondary Pass Certificate after prosecuting studies in distance or correspondence method shall also be considered as eligible for admission in the Integrated Five Years B.A.., LL.B. Degree Course

Explanation: The applicants who have obtained 10+2 through Open University system directly without having any basic qualification for prosecuting such studies are not eligible for admission in the law courses.

Minimum marks in qualifying examination for admission: As prescribed by the Bar Council of India the minimum percentage of marks not below 45% of the total marks in case of general category applicants and 40% of the total marks in case of SC and ST applicants, has to be obtained in the qualifying examination such as 10+2 or Intermediate examination, for the purpose of applying for and admitted into Integrated Five Years B.A., LL.B., Degree Course.

Provided that such a minimum qualifying marks shall not automatically entitle a person to get admission into an institution but only shall entitle the person concerned to fulfill other institutional criteria notified by the institution concerned or by the government concerned from time to time to apply for admission.

LL.M.

LL.M. Masters degree course is offered at the College in two streams viz., Regular and Self-Financing .Regular LL.M. Course is offered in three branches of specialization viz., Constitutional Law, Corporate Laws and Labour Law. The Self-financing LL.M. Courses are offered in three new branches viz., Alternative Dispute Resolution, Intellectual Property Rights, and International Trade and Economic Law with effect from the academic year 2007-08 during the evening hours. This two years Masters programme is offered through semester system.

Admission: A candidate for admission to LL.M. Semester Course has to qualify at the PGLCET Examination conducted by the A.P. State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) for that academic year. The candidates will be admitted strictly in accordance with the merit secured at the entrance examination, keeping in view the Rules in force in respect of the statutory reservation of seats under categories of candidates.

Duration of the study: The duration of the Course is two academic years. Each academic year is divided into two semesters. The Two Semesters in the first academic year are referred to as Semester I and Semester II and the two semesters in second year are referred to as Semester III and Semester IV. Each Semester shall comprise of 15 weeks of instruction.

Post Graduate Diploma Courses

(i) Post Graduate Diploma in Cyber Laws (PGDCL)

The College offers a One-year Post Graduate Diploma in Cyber Laws (PGDCL) which has been introduced in the year 2007.It is open to any Graduate who qualifies in the Entrance Examination conducted by the university. The course is offered in the evening hours and on Self-financing basis. The candidates will be admitted strictly in accordance with the merit secured at the entrance examination, keeping in view the Rules in force in respect of the statutory reservation of seats under categories of candidates. The Duration of the course is one year divided into two semesters.

The intake in the PGDCL course is a total of 80 seats each out of which 60 seats are in the non-sponsored category and 20 seats are in the sponsored category. The other details of the courses are here under:

(ii) Post Graduate Diploma in Taxation and Insurance Laws (PGDTIL)

The College also offers a One-year Post Graduate Diploma in Tax and Insurance Laws (PGDTIL).It is open to any Graduate who qualifies in the Entrance Examination conducted by the university. The courses are offered in the evening hours and on Self-financing basis. The candidates will be admitted strictly in accordance with the merit secured at the entrance examination, keeping in view the Rules in force in respect of the statutory reservation of seats under categories of candidates. The Duration of the course is one year divided into two semesters.

Research

The Department of law offers Ph.D. Programme in two streams viz., Full Time and Part Time. Candidates who are registered for Ph.D. are classified into two categories. Viz (I) FULL- TIME and (ii) PART-TIME research scholars. Normally, the duration of the FULL -TIME research scholar shall be four years and for a PART-TIME research scholar it shall be five years from the date of joining *. So far the Department has produced about 83 Ph.Ds. At present there are 116 research scholars on rolls.
