Objective

The RUSA 2.0 Doctoral Fellowship of MHRD-RUSA 2.0 at Centre for Biodiversity and Conservation Studies – a Centre of Excellence established under MHRD-RUSA 2.0 in Osmania University aims to identify motivated post-graduate students to undertake research to fulfill the various objectives of the Centre and contribute to enriching the knowledge of the biodiversity of Telangana State.



Responsibilities

The Doctoral Fellows at the Centre will be responsible for documentation of flora and fauna in Telangana State.


The fellows (02 nos) selected under the category ‘field study - fauna and flora’ will be responsible for undertaking field surveys within Telangana State in Protected Area network and also in human-dominated and human-altered habitats either by themselves or along with other project staff (post-doctoral fellows and interns) for collecting species distribution and other relevant data, and samples.


The fellows (02 nos) selected under the category ‘molecular taxonomy’ will be responsible for the extraction of the whole genomic DNA from samples, amplification of CoI gene and other molecular markers, curation and submission of the gene sequences (both barcodes and others) in GenBank and BoL databases, and conduct phylogenetic analyses.


The fellow (01 no) selected under the GIS category will be responsible for creation of distribution maps of the flora and fauna for which data is available and will be collected during the project tenure. The fellow will also be responsible for curating the georeferenced data of flora and fauna submitted by the other project team of the Centre (post-doctoral fellows and interns).


The selected doctoral fellows shall be offered admissions in the Ph.D. programme in one of the departments of Zoology, Botany or Environmental Science in Osmania University as per the university norms. Their research project for Ph.D. programs shall be similar to the works being conducted at the Centre. It is expected the Doctoral Fellows conduct research at the Centre that will lead to the award of Ph.D. degree. Besides the primary responsibilities mentioned above, the Doctoral Fellows will also help in conduct of education awareness programs, workshops, seminars, and other academic and research activities that the Centre will take up from time to time.




Eligibility

  • • The application is open for both Indian and international applicants.

  • • The applicant must have obtained PG degree from a recognized University.

  • • The Indian applicant must have cleared the CSIR / UGC NET / GATE - Life Sciences / NESET / SET in the last three years.

  • • International applicants who have obtained their post graduate degree from any one of the top 200 World Ranking University as per the Times Higher Education or QS world ranking 2019 are only eligible to apply.

  • • The upper age limit for the fellowship is 28 years at the time of the submission of application. Age relaxation of 5 (five) years will be given to SC/ST/OBC/Physically Challenged/ Women candidates.

  • • Applicants with prior research experience in related field will be preferred.


Nature & Duration of Support

  • • The fellowship is purely a temporary assignment, and is tenable initially for a period of one year, extendable for further two years (one year at a time, based on performance).

  • • The fellows will be entitled to receive Rs. 35,000/- per month (consolidated).

  • • The fellows are required to work on full time basis at the Centre, and are not eligible to receive any other fellowship from any Government or Non-Governmental source during the tenure of the fellowship.

Experience of work in PCR techniques and related studies in animals is desirable.

Experience of work in PCR techniques and related studies in plants is desirable. 
5.  DF - GIS  01 
  • 1. Master’s Degree in Animal Sciences/Zoology/Botany/Plant Sciences/Ecology/Environmental Sciences with minimum 70% marks or CGPA of 7.5 on a scale of 10.
  • 2. Qualified CSIR – NET / SET / GATE - Life Sciences / NESET
 
Experience of work in GIS techniques and related studies is desirable.

Termination

The Director, Centre for Biodiversity and Conservation Studies reserves the right to terminate the RUSA 2.0 fellowship at any stage if it is convinced that appropriate progress is not being made or the fellow has not been performing duties optimally.



Leave

The RUSA 2.0 Doctoral Fellows are entitled to one day casual leave per month (which can be accumulated). Any leaves beyond that will be with proportionate deduction in fellowship. Participation in scientific workshops held in India with prior approval will be treated as 'on duty'.



Mode of Selection

The selection will be based on screening, written and oral interview, and the recommendations of an Expert Committee that will be constituted by the Board of Directors of OU Idea Labs Foundation managing RUSA 2.0 project.
