Description

FTIR spectrometer is an important scientific instrument in various research, analytical and Quality control laboratories for identification and characterization of various sample substances.

This instrument will provide information about interaction of vibrational radiation with matter, thermal and mechanical properties of materials, catalyst characterization, and their kinetic and thermodynamic properties.

The infrared source emits a broad band of different wavelength of infrared radiation. The IR radiation goes through an interferometer that modulates the infrared radiation. The interferometer performs an optical inverse Fourier transform on the entering IR radiation. The modulated IR beam passes through the gas sample where it is absorbed to various extents at different wavelengths by the various molecules present. Finally the intensity of the IR beam is detected by a detector, here it is DigiTect Detector system, High Sensitive room Temperature DLaTGS with Integrated True 24-Bit Dynamic Range ADC. The detected signal is digitised and Fourier transformed by the computer to get the IR spectrum of the sample gas. The resulting spectrum is characteristic of the organic molecules present in the sample.

The technique can quickly provide FTIR spectra of solid, semi-solid, and liquid samples in any form without sample preparation.

It can work with minimum sample size 15 µ, minimal alignment, kinematic mount, and with rapid sample change.

Infrared Spectroscopy gives information on the vibrational and rotational modes of motion of a molecule.

The Infrared spectrum of an organic compound provides a unique fingerprint, which is readily distinguished from the absorption patterns of all other compounds; only optical isomers absorb in exactly the same way. Hence FTIR is an important technique for identification and characterization of a substance.

Used for the identification and quantification of organic species. Is capable of ultra trace organic analysis, e.g. for contamination on surfaces.

Identification of functional group and structure elucidation. Identification of drug substance and impurities in a drug sample.

Allows rapid analysis of micro-samples down to the nanogram level in some cases. Study of polymers, study of hydrogen bonding, Ratio of Cis-trans isomers in a mixture.

Allows Contamination detection, Raw material testing, Measurement of layers by specular and diffuse reflection.

Users are required to submit the Samples in powder form

Samples with rough or matt surface are also analyzed.

Facilitates testing of Liquid samples on KBr-powder.
