Eligibility and Admission
MA: BA graduates are eligible for the Master’s programme. Admission is based on an entrance test of 100 objective type questions based on the BA syllabus, and the entrance will be held normally in the month of June. Advertisement calling for applications is usually issued in the second week of April every year by the University.
Total number of seats is 100 with an additional 1/3 seats available for candidates seeking admission under the self-financing scheme. The student is required to qualify in a Entrance Examination for admission to the regular Master course, where the competition is 1:25.
The Department is also offering Master of Arts in Telugu through distance mode in Prof. G. Ram Reddy Centre for Distance Education (PGRRCDE), Osmania University along with Bachelor’s Degrees in distance modes.
Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy): Candidates are eligible for admission to Ph.D., if they complete M.Phil or qualifying JRF/NET (UGC), SLET (AP/TS) and Ph.D. Entrance Test conducted by Osmania University.
Medium of Instruction: The medium of instruction is Telugu for all the courses. Students with good written and oral Communication Skills in Telugu will benefit most from the courses offered.
Semester System / CBCS
The Department follows the Semester System at the M.A. levels in accordance with the University decision from 2001-2002. The Department following the Semester System (CBCS) at the M.A. level in accordance with the University decision from 2016-2017 onwards as per UGC, New Delhi, guidelines.
Internal Assessment
The Department has introduced internal assessment tests from the academic year 2007-2008 for MA course. There are two internal assessment tests per semester for ten marks each. Internal assessment forms 20% of the final percentage. Under CBCS system Two Internal Assessment Tests are made compulsory in each Semester. The 80% at the end Semester Examination. The Department offers Master of Arts (M.A.) Course in Telugu as a Post-Graduate Programme and Ph.D. as a research programme.
