Faculties

Osmania University has established 12 different Faculties and is composed of different departments or disciplines, in order to offer courses in various subjects with ability and effectively. These courses have stipulated period of course of study/learning to get graduated in particular branch of discipline, after undergoing scheme of instruction, training and evaluation. The concept of faculty was introduced in Osmania University in the year 1964 and was headed by a senior most faculty member of the comprehensive branches of the discipline of the faculty known as Dean of the Faculty. It is a statutory position of the University and appointed on rotation basis by the Executive Council/Syndicate of the University in exercise of the powers conferred by ordinance XXVII of University Statues and Ordinances. Initially the term of Dean was for 3 Years, subsequently reduced to 2 Years.

Functions of Faculty:

  • Regular Interaction with the members of the Faculty on matters related academic and research activities.
  • Strengthening the role and involvement of Departmental Research Committees.
  • Conduct of Research Methodology Workshops.
  • Frames Admission Rules for M.Phil and Ph.D., Programs.
  • Recognition of Supervisors for M.Phil and Ph.D., Programs on the recommendation of Departmental Research Committees.
  • Allocation of Research Grants to the Departments.
  • Maintain the records of enrolment of Research Scholars.
  • Monitor the Progress of the M.Phil., and Ph.D., Students.
  • Publication of Research Journals
  • Forwards Application of faculty members for Duty Leave on Academic and Research Pursuits.
  • Updating the syllabus in association with Boards of Studies concerned.
  • Promoting Interdisciplinary Studies.
  • Conducts affiliation inspections in association with Directorate of Academic Audit on behalf of the University.
  • Preparation of Almanac for the programs offered under the Faculty.
  • Represents the Standing Committee of Academic Council / Senate.

1. Faculty of Arts:

The Faculty of Arts was established in the year 1964 and composed of 15 Departments presently offering 3 UG courses (15 Combinations), 18 PG Courses, 18 M.Phil., and Ph. D., Programs.

2. Faculty of Social Sciences:

The Faculty of Social Sciences was carved out of the Faculty of Arts in the year 1964 and composed of 7 Departments presently offering 3 UG courses (15 Combinations), 8 PG Courses, 8 M.Phil., and Ph. D., Programs.

3. Faculty of Science:

The Faculty of Science was established in the year 1964 and composed of 14 Departments presently offering 3 UG courses (15 Combinations), 18 PG Courses, 1 M.Phil., and 15 Ph. D., Programs.

4. Faculty of Engineering:

The Faculty of Engineering was established in the year 1964 and composed of 6 Departments presently offering 8 UG courses, 18 PG Courses, and 6 Ph. D., Programs with 30 Specializations.

5. Faculty of Education:

The Faculty of Education was established in the year 1964 and composed of 3 Departments presently offering 3 UG courses, 3 PG Courses, 3 M.Phil., and Ph. D., Programs.

6. Faculty of Law:

The Faculty of Law was established in the year 1964 and composed of 1 Departments presently offering 3 UG courses, 9 PG Courses and Ph. D., Programs.

7. Faculty of Technology:

The Faculty of Technology was established in the year 1964 and composed of 1 Department presently offering 8 UG courses, 3 PG Courses (6 Specializations), and 3 Ph. D Programs (12 Specializations).

8. Faculty of Commerce:

The Faculty of Commerce was established in the year 1964 and composed of 3 Departments presently offering 3 UG courses, 3 PG Courses, 3 M.Phil., and Ph. D. Programs.

9. Faculty of Management:

The Faculty of Management was established in the year 1997 and composed of 1 Department presently offering 2 UG courses, 4 PG Courses, and Ph. D. Programs.

10. Faculty of Informatics:

The Faculty of Informatics was established in the year 1999 and composed of 1 Department presently offering 2 UG courses, 2 PG Courses, and Ph. D. Programs.

11. Faculty of Oriental Languages:

The Faculty of Oriental Languages was established in the year 1995 and composed of 1 Department presently offering 1 UG course (6 Combinations), 3 PG Courses, 3 M.Phil., and Ph. D. Programs.

12. Faculty of Pharmacy:

The Faculty of Pharmacy was Established in the year 2010 and composed of 1 Department presently offering 2 PG course and Ph.D. Programme.
