1. About the Department
The Department of Biochemistry started in 1963 as a section of the Chemistry and became a full-fledged Department in 1970. In recognition of its research and teaching achievements, the University Grants Commission awarded the prestigious COSIST programme, spread over two Phases (1985-1995), and the Special Assistance Program at the level of DRS (2001-2006). The Department of Science & Technology has awarded the FIST grant (2000-2005).

Future Plans / Activities
Starting of the academic year (2002-2003), the department will serve as the nodal Department for running the M.Sc. Forensic Science Dr. B. Sashidhar Rao will be the Course Coordinator. The Department plans to start a one year P.G. Diploma in Clinical Biochemistry. Under the FIST program of the DST a new facility to initiate research in Proteomics and a Computer lab will be established. Under the UGC-SAP program new equipment and infrastructure will be added to strengthen research in the department. The department will be conducting a one-day National level symposium on the eve of superannuating of its senior faculty member in September, 2002. It is also planned to conduct a one day National symposium on Clinical Biochemistry to be sponsored by association of Clinical Biochemists , India. Research collaborations are being planed with industries and institutions both within and outside the country. |
