General Information

A copy of every approved Ph.D. Thesis shall be placed in the University Library with the inscription ‘Thesis approved for the Award of the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy, Osmania University’.

 

Supervisor, who retires or leaves the University/Institution, as the case may be, shall normally be permitted to guide candidate(s) registered with him/her.  Research Supervisors who have retired from the University service and who have been able to secure research schemes either in the university or the other recognized research institutions may be permitted, upto five years after retirement, to register fresh candidates not exceeding two in the case of Arts, Social Science, Management, Commerce, Law, Education and Oriental Languages and one in case of Science, Technology, Informatics and Engineering.

 

A research Supervisor (in service) can have at any given time, a maximum of six registered students working under him/her for the Ph.D. degree.   A vacancy with the Supervisor may be considered to have occurred only when a candidate working under him/her submits the thesis, OR his/her registration is cancelled.

 

The registration of Ph.D. scholar may be cancelled by the Dean, if the candidate within the prescribed period fails to satisfy the conditions stipulated in the admission order.

 

A Dean may cancel the registration of a Ph.D. scholar on the recommendation of the Supervisor and head of the Department OR after consulting the Head f the Department under any of the following circumstances.

 

Where the progress has been reported to be unsatisfactory in three consecutive quarterly reports submitted as stipulate above or when three consecutive progress reports are not submitted.

 

Where a candidate discontinues his/her research, and / or where he / she has applied for employment without obtaining the written permission of the Dean, or when he / she accepts any appointment without the written consent of Dean.

Where the candidate has not submitted the thesis in the prescribed period.

 

Where the candidate has not passed Pre-Ph.D. by availing of the prescribed number of chances.

 

The Vice-Chancellor may constitute a Committee to enquire into any reports of misbehaviour or misconduct of research scholar.  Based on the report of the Committee a show cause notice may be issued to the concerned scholar and if found guilty, the University may cancel his/her admission.

 

In case of any irregularity or malpractice reported against a Ph.D. scholars and if he / she is found guilty, his / her result will be withheld and the Controller of Examinations will be empowered to take suitable action and cancel the result, if required, at any stage, even after the publication of the result.
