Osmania University provides hostel accommodation for the students coming from outside Hyderabad. Soon after the admission is finalized, outstation students have to apply to the Chief Warden through their Heads of the Departments and the Principal of the college for hostel accommodation. Seats are provided subject to availability. There is a separate hostel for ladies.

Students from the University College of Arts and Social Sciences are provided accommodation in the following hostels :

Students welfare Department

The Office of the Students’ Welfare Department is located in the Office of the Registrar, Osmania University.

The Department is playing a pivotal role in sorting out the problems of students and also in encouraging cultural and recreational activities of the students. Prof. Shanker, the Dean, is assisted by Youth Welfare Officers.

student bus pass

  • Students of Arts College coming from outside the university campus are eligible to obtain ‘Student Bus Pass’ issued by the A.P.S.R.T.C. authorities. There is a bus pass counter at the eastern corner of Arts College building. The College code for RTC bus pass is : P-3041.
  • Students desirous of getting a bus pass should fill in the prescribed form, get it attested by the Head of the Department concerned and submit the same at the bus pass counter on or before 16th of every month.
  • Students who do not attend classes regularly are not eligible for the bus pass.

railway concession

  • A student whose native place is not Hyderabad can avail railway concession during winter/summer vacation.
  • No railway concession will be issued during the working days of the college.
  • On production of the railway concession form duly signed by the Principal, railway authorities allow 50% concession in train fare for Second class/ Sleeper class on passenger/ fast passenger/express/super fast express/mail trains only.
  • In case of cultural troups/groups, games and sports teams and groups of students going on education tours, the railway authorities offer concession in train fares to the extent of 50% only to a group/team consisting of at least five students accompanied by a teacher/sports coach/ manager (escort in case of girl students) during the college working days also.
  • Research scholars up to the age of 36 years are also eligible to get railway concession for travelling outside Hyderabad for collection of data or research materials any time during the tenure of their research period.
  • Students whose attendance is not satisfactory are not eligible for railway concession.

Competitive examination coaching centre

Osmania University was selected by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi to start a coaching scheme for minorities in 1984 in compliance with point 11 of the Prime Minister’s 15-point programme. Later, the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Andhra Pradesh, came forward with coaching programmes for S.C. and S.T. candidates.

Prof. E.G. Parameswaran, Dept. of Psychology, was the first Director and Mr.S.K.Moinuddin, Department of English, the first Coordinator.

The Coaching Centre has the following objectives.

  • To organize coaching programmes for S.Cs, S.Ts and minorities to prepare them for various competitive examinations and also to get admission into postgraduate and professional courses.
  • To offer career guidance and counselling.
  • To provide reference books and reference materials useful for competitive examinations.

The centre enjoys functional autonomy and is guided by an Advisory Committee with the Vice-Chancellor as its Chairman. Prof. C. Ganesh of Sociology Department is the present Director and Convenor.


Arts College Seminar library

The Postgraduate College Library was set up in the old assembly hall of Arts College building after shifting the main library of Osmania University to the newly constructed building in 1963.

Every Department of Arts College had a small collection of textbooks which were pooled in this library. The library caters to the needs of the students, staff and research scholars of Arts College. It has a very good collection of textbooks and research materials. Mr. B. Karunaker is the Librarian of the Arts College Library.


Osmania University main library

The Osmania University Main Library was started in 1918-19. It moved into Arts College building in 1939 and was ultimately shifted to an independent building in 1963 situated on a hill top. It covers a floor area of 62,000 sq.ft.

The holdings of the library include nearly 5 lakh books, 58,000 bound volumes of journals, 3,858 government documents, 272 films, 6428 manuscripts, 143 micro films and 9 CD ROMs.

A Competitive Examinations Reference Section has been added to the library for candidates appearing for various competitive examinations.

The ‘Vision of Osmania’ in the library has rare photographs of former Chancellors, Vice-Chancellors, pro-Chancellors, pro-Vice-Chancellors, plans of the campus buildings, farman of Nizam VII and other historical documents.


Health Centre

The University Health centre is located on the university campus near the ‘B’ hostel building. It functions from 9.00 am to 12.00 noon and 4.00 to 6.00 p.m. on all working days. A Chief Medical Officer heads the Centre and is assisted by a team of doctors. Staff and students receive only out-patient treatment at this centre free of cost.


Computer Centre

The centre has 44 computers which are in LAN and all computers are Internet connected through 256 KBPS Leased line.

Mr. S. Surya Narayana is System Administrator of the Computer Centre.

Dr.Y.Parthasaradhi, Department of Public Administration, Dr. V. Vishwa Mohan, Department of Library and Information Science, are the faculty incharge of the centre.


University Employemtnt, Information and Guideance Bureau

The bureau’s activities include registration of unemployed graduates, vocational, professional and career guidance and counselling. It displays the vacancies notified by different employers and arranges lectures on various facets of career planning and job opportunities.

It is headed by a Director (generally a professor of the University). The first Director was Prof. Rasheeduddin Khan, Dept. of Political Science. Prof.N. Umapathy, Prof. M.A.Aleem, Prof. D.Babu Rao, Prof.Uma Rangan , Prof. Sulochana Reddy and Prof. Ayodhya have functioned as Directors. The present Director is Dr. B. Balaramulu, Dept. of Education.


post office

Osmania University Post Office is located behind Arts College. The building is a miniature version of the Arts College building. It has all normal postal facilities of registration, sale of stamps, speed post, money order and savings bank etc.

It functions from 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. on all working days. Another subpost- office is located near the Academic Staff College, Osmania University.


State Bank of hyderabad

Osmania University branch of State Bank of Hyderabad is housed in the lower portion of Arts College building towards its east? north-east? end. It has extension counters at the Centre for Distance Education, Examination Branch, University College of Engineering and CIEFL.

All fee transactions pertaining to Osmania University have to be made through this bank. It functions from 10.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m.
